Factory Farming and Organic Farming Issues
Meat is a large part of an average American's diet.   Do you know where your beef, pork and poultry come from?  Unbeknownst to most consumers,  98 percent of the tidy packaged meats that are purchased from supermarkets come from huge factory farms tucked away from consumer's consciences.  These massive, windowless buildings house farm animals that are treated in horrific conditions.  Pigs, who have been documented to have the intelligence of a  6-year-old human, are locked into metal gestation crates just two feet wide.  They are incapable of turning around in these crates.  These pigs are forced to sleep, eat and 'live'  out their existence in these inhumane conditions.

Massive amounts of antibiotics are required to address the vast overcrowding and poor sanitary conditions on these factory farms.   The end product is a meal that comes with a very high ethical and food quality price.

There are viable, conscientious alternatives. Some local farmers are still raising farm animals in humane, natural settings.  These farmers are dedicated to raising animals naturally, allowing for instinctive behaviors.  Pigs, beef and dairy cows and chickens can be witnessed interacting with each other in green, pastured fields.  These animals are raised without antibiotic and hormonal treatments.  They certainly appear to lead a life that benefits from green grass, fresh air and sunshine.  One can visit these farms and know first hand where our food comes from.  ~See Farm Resource Guide.
